Although few remember it now, in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in NYC, the current mayor tried to "stay on" instead allowing the new mayor to take over. The incoming mayor would have none of it. The mayor who tried to stay in office was Rudy Giuliani and the new mayor was Michael Bloomberg.

Lori P's avatar

Also the people of NY. I was one of them. Just a hint at postponing an election and the people of NY lost their collective minds and turned on Rudy, “Americas Mayor” at the time. Would love some of that level of outrage now.

Lawrence Goldstone's avatar

Yes, Rudy was stunned. He was extremely popular at the time. But I don't think you have to worry about outrage. It's there. I recommended this to someone else...yes, it is mine.

Lori P's avatar

Well great, then at least two of us our sufficiently outraged. 🙂

Lawrence Goldstone's avatar

A lot more than us. Trick is to maintain the energy...but, thank you, Trump. He will make sure it doesn't ebb. A lethal combination of uber-arrogance and almost jaw-dropping incompetence.

Papi's avatar

Faking a national emergency could be a prelude to a true civil war, with multiple states saying there is no fucking emergency and deploying the state’s national guard to keep federal forces OUT of the election process, locked and loaded.

Lori P's avatar

Would like to point out that he has already called out several fake emergencies to justify the illegal crap his regime has enacted. The non-emergency trade deficit for the tariffs, the fake emergency invasion to deploy guard and attack citizens, the fake emergency Venezuelan fentanyl traffic to blow up boats and attack that country and seize the leader. We should be planning on him declaring an emergency, not wondering if he will.

Bill Pierce's avatar

Sounds good, but Drumpf will have already federalized the State’s National Guards. They will in effect be neutralized for all intents and purposes.

We are the answer, stop pointing to others. Get up. Stand up. Don’t give up your rights. We’ve only begun to fight!

FDD's avatar

SCOTUS actually ruled against that bs… Govs need to ready their state NGs to protect their own neighbors.

Mary Ann Edwards's avatar

Great thought but will he Nationalize the blue states National Guard Troops for his own uses??

Papi's avatar

To which blue state governors would need to say NOT ON MY WATCH and countermand the order. Like I said…civil war

Cathy McCarthy's avatar

Start with placing federal taxes collected in their state in escrow.

Marcia Power's avatar

And red state governors like Bill Lee in Tennessee will jump at the chance to control elections. Will Marsha Blackburn who wants so badly to control Tennessee as the new governor and Bill Hagerty who is Trump’s ass kisser as well as Tim Burchett, who has a truly remarkable Democratic opponent for U.S. House District 2, fall in line? Need you ask? Need I answer? For those of us in states with GOP supermajorities it’s one nightmare after another. So proud to be a Democrat in Tennessee. Won’t give up the fight against this fascist, narcissist oligarchy and kakistocracy.

Would it be easier to mess up all the ongoing primary elections, Instead of waiting for the national election? It’s like they’re admitting they’re going to lose. They want people to believe the reason they’re losing is because the winners are cheating😂😂😂

I just don’t see how this is a show of strength. It’s a show of weakness.

Cathy McCarthy's avatar

Even that won’t work. People are that primed to see this election happen!

Cheryl's avatar

I’m one of them! We are going to crush MAGA/republicans in the midterms!

Jack Wrong's avatar

I know that my governor, Maura Healey, would do this in a second. I can only assume many of the other New England states (including VT...maybe not NH) would as well. Let's see, NJ, NY, DE, MD, VA, MI, KY, NC, IL, WI, KS, CO, NM, AZ, CA, OR & WA all have Democratic governors...tall order, and mass chaos...but that is what Trump wants.

That, and a reinstitution of the draft I feel will do it as well. See, pee wee German needs a military that will go to the shores of all the countries they want to invade (essentially the entire western hemisphere). They can’t do it without a draft. The false flag that will create this National Emergency will be tied to the Iran war.

The US reengineered an Iranian drone. They used it on Feb 28 on Iran and it worked flawlessly. A company called Lucas something was the company. You couple that with the 4 drone units stolen from the Kentucky military base in Nov of last year, and you have the makings of a 9/11 all over again.

They will do everything they can to keep the Epstein pedo ring out of the newspapers while loyalists to Israel buy up the media and spread propaganda. It’s a tale as old as time for this foreign actor.

Robert Peltzman's avatar

You can't fight Trump with guns. He'll turn your blue state into another Iran and jump for joy while doing it.

Common sense's avatar

You’re also assuming that the red states won’t participate despite them now realizing they’ve been conned.

True Americans will have no choice but to storm the Capital, supreme dicks and WH... this will and should be the "True Americans. November-ers"

Mary Lynn M Laurent's avatar

Yup I’ve already said if they try to create some “emergency” to block November elections, the People will revolt and Civil War will happen. The People will march to the Gold House in protest.

Funny how the U.S. was deep into a national emergency in 1942 and 1944 (a little thing called THE SECOND WORLD WAR!), and yet the congressional and presidential elections went on as usual. So what's the "emergency" here? Hmmm.🤔

DFG's avatar

We had midterms and a presidential election in 1862 and 1864 during a literal civil war. If he thinks he’ll get away with it he’s dumber than we all thought.

Richard’s's avatar

He’s dumber than you or I can believe

Sierra Zephyr's avatar

Those who ignore (are ignorant of) History are doomed to repeat it.

steve reed's avatar

Trump might lose the house. And for him that is a national emergency! He’s gonna pull out all the stops to try and get Senator thune to change filibuster rules. I don’t think he will try and stop having the elections although nothing is impossible with this guy, but will sabotage elections before during and after is a four gone conclusion

Elizabeth's avatar

Such a good point but then Trump and his team don’t do history!

Jenna Hooley's avatar

What’s happening with the cases that prove Elon rigged the ‘24 election? How are they getting away with this! It feels like nothing is happening!

Chris Forget's avatar

With Pam Bondi as AG, should anyone be surprised ?

Lisa Sands's avatar

Dah. Wake up everyone. We must stay together and vote in November Midterms.

Desiree Carter's avatar

We’ve got to forward this to as many as we can and ask those individuals to forward it to others and so on!! Thinking about this scares the hell out of me!! I’m not sure we can survive another 14+ months of this madness, this chaos!!

We need to keep fighting…NOT GIVE UP!!

We can rest when this dickwit is gone!!! When ALL of them are GONE!!!

Sierra Zephyr's avatar

The amount of ignorance, ignoring and inertia, especially among the algorithm-dopamine drugged youth, is scary. There are a couple or 3 generations now who were born with cellphones in their hands, brought up by iPads and TV, who can't be bothered to vote or care about politics. Their mantra, "They're all the same. They're all as bad."

Alice's avatar

I beg to disagree. I see many, many young people understanding and protesting against this fascist movement. Instead of villainizing our youth, let’s volunteer or donate to groups who are raising awareness for their generation. Be a part of the solution.

bvd's avatar

Look at the turn out for the TX primary. It was as high as for a general. And I understand the biggest change was youth voting!

Sierra Zephyr's avatar

Only reporting on my own experience, during last elections. N. Calif. under-25 year olds ± of voting age were disengaged, disinterested or ignorant of the issues or their consequences.

steve reed's avatar

It’s a mixed bag

Richard’s's avatar

I think it’s an older group that’s giving up. The 40 to 50 year olds

Roger's avatar

Can’t do it! PERIOD! FULL STOP! If two World Wars, a Civil War, Vietnam War, etc etc etc. didn’t stop elections….. It’s right in the fucking U.S. Constitution! He can’t fucking do it, no matter what these election denying dimwits say. Stop with the BULLSHIT!

Patricia McNulty's avatar

Wake up! When has a little issue of illegality ever stopped the orange one from doing what he wants?

Roger's avatar

Wake up? I’ll wake up when you explain to me how he’s going to do it genius. Is he going to wave his magic sharpie and just declare it so. So I guess it’s just inevitable right? Maybe you should just bend over, put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. I guess the governors and legislators of the states will just roll over relinquish their right by law to conduct their own elections due to some Trump fever dream of a national emergency. Seems Trump’s not the only one who’s delusional! You’re basing your opinion on the ravings of lunatic election deniers? Critical thinking not your strong suit?

Mary Ann Edwards's avatar

Ease up Roger- all thoughts are valuable here. You may be right - it won’t happen BUT since when does being prepared for the unexpected cause a problem ? Many minds , many different ideas coming together strengthen us.

Patricia McNulty's avatar

I would LOVE to think that you are correct! I simply do not trust him or any of his diabolically inclined lackeys to obey the law, no matter how plainly it is written, or no matter how well that law has stood until now. He has a bad reputation for ignoring laws and norms he doesn't like. The supreme court seems to bend over backwards to give him latitude in their decisions, as if he were a normal, well intentioned president, so I cannot trust that they will uphold the law, either. Even if they were to rule against him, he has a habit of ignoring rulings. Republicans in congress stand behind him no matter what, so we can't rely on them, either. So what can we do? What will YOU do? Demonstrate? Riot? Write letters to your Congressmen? I marched, demonstrated, wrote letters, voted during the Vietnam war. All the government would say is that if Vietnam fell to the communists that we were next. What excuse do you think the republicans will think of this election season, Constitution or no Constitution? Sorry to go on so long. I guess we shall see if we will actually make it through this.

elected officials, podcasters, Substack authors, mainstream media (that hasn’t been completely coopted, yet), Late Night hosts, No Kings organizers, anyone with a platform, need to push Trump and demand proof as hard as they have demanded release of the Epstein files. and we all have to make it go viral!

Alice B's avatar

Uh...pushing for the Epstein files has had what result?

Bill and Hill testified?

And...what new information was gained?

This is SERIOUS.

This MUST be stopped.

Marilyn Kohn's avatar

I only brought up the Epstein files because the demand for their release has been so strong and sustained that it got Trump's -- and Congress' attention. The law requiring release of the files had only one dissenting vote in the House and unanimous support in the Senate. If Trump is pressured in the same way to prove his lies are true it would make it harder for him to use election interference as a pretext for whatever shenanigans they are planning for Election day. our protest, being challenged on late night TV and continuous news coverage would divert his attention from whatever he's planned. I question why nobody challenged his claims 5 years ago. we all knew they were lies but we didn't push him to demonstrate that that he was tossing out unsubstantiated allegations. we let him set the narrative which, in my estimation, was a mistake.

Alice B's avatar

Largely, I agree with you, Marilyn...BUT...Epstein is the scariest piece of things for Don.

If his behavior came fully to light, he fears he could go to prison...and that is his greatest fear of all.

He is FIXATED on that situation.

The House and Senate had to look out for their own interests..so they couldn't withhold the files. But what has actually been released to the public is but a shred...

Anyway...

Marilyn Kohn's avatar

we have GOT to start pressing Trump for evidence of fraud. he’s never given any. we know he can’t. making a big deal of it might throw a wrench in his plans. maybe Democrat SOS in states where fraud is alleged can start an investigation into the supposed fraud. subpoena officials. take a deposition from Trump. anything to throw sand in the gears of Trump’s reality.

steve reed's avatar

We are beyond reason. The future is about power who has it and how it is wielded

Tony Armagh's avatar

TRUMP WILL USE HIS MASKED GOON SQUAD TO DETER MIDTERM VOTERS AND ULTIMATELY CONFISCATE STATE BALLOTS TO “RECOUNT” AND CLAIM VICTORY IN KEY ELECTIONS.

If we fail to mount a “muscular” defense in-kind against trump's plan to use his growing federal militia to steal the midterm elections, we will lose the government to American-style fascism for many years to come.

What to do: The governors of blue states must form their own counterpunch by bolstering their State National Guard and deploying them at voting sites to provide safe transport for voters who might otherwise fear the violence and unlawful arrest by the masked goons

AND

protect and prevent the confiscation of the ballots for what is after all a state election.

If this sounds too confrontational to the Democratic Party and we, the people, then we do not understand how desperate trump is to maintain the majority in the House and Senate. To rely on words and interviews and essays and the courts and judges means we are afraid to do what is necessary to save the Republic.

This is not hyperbole. This is where we are.

I would encourage all of us to send the following message to our governors: Use the State National Guard to Safeguard the Midterm Elections.

Then we will see how serious we and our leadership are about all of this.

steve reed's avatar

This is where we are indeed. Trump knows he’s up shit creek if he loses the house or Senate and he will do anything to stop that. That’s my view. And his recent actions confirm that he will do anything to get thune to change the filibuster rules. and he might succeed if he doesn’t he’ll issue an executive order or declare national emergency whatever

Tony Armagh's avatar

It is so obvious, our leadership no doubt sees this. My fear is that they are simply feckless careerists who are just as performative as trump but are just playing the opposite role.

K Wade's avatar

The Marmalade man is but a mouthpiece. The smart people planning election fraud know the election needs to "look" normal. A massive turn out probably will happen. All the election fraudsters want to change is the result.

So what are the methods or mechanizims in each state that accumulates the voters totals? Who in each state certifies the totals? What voting machines are used by each state? A Maga oligarch bought the Dominion voting machines company after the 2024 elections.

The "fix" to rig the mid-terms in many states may already be in play. They don't need to rig every state, just enough to ensure a majority in the Senate. Winning the House could also be important.

With today's technology hacking, esp. by all the wealthy tech bros, election fraud could be done quietly behind the curtain. Months later, lawsuits of discrepancies will be difficult to untangle and easily dismissed on the SCOTUS shadow docket.

Just saying....

RebeccaJ's avatar

We all saw how the Trump Administration hit the ground running in January, 2025 and caused immense harm. So, it would not surprise me if there is a detailed strategy being devised, or already in place to prevent the midterm elections from occurring. Congress, the courts and all Americans must be ready to counter any such strategy to ensure the midterm elections happen without obstruction.

Marilyn Kohn's avatar

see my response to Janice Kelly above. we should have done this 5 years ago. but Trump goes back to 2020 every time he speaks. we need to go there, too.

James Houston's avatar

The Trump administration has decided that local law enforcement organizations will not be informed about terrorist threats, while they are bombing Iran with sadistic glee. This is even better than a false flag operation. Trump wants an attack to take place so he can declare a national emergency with all the bells and whistles, including suspended elections and martial law. That's one side of the double edged sword of Operation Epstein Fury.

Marita Sullivan's avatar

Do you think the fact that the White House stopped dissemination of info to law enforcement, about heightened chance that violence that could take place in the US due to the Iran war, hoping a ‘terrorist event’ could happen to create the ‘emergency’ the Trump regime is looking for?

I’m scaring myself that I’m becoming a conspiracy theorist🤦‍♀️…
